Best picks
How we choose the day's likeliest picks.
One pick per match, from our own forecasting model — not a copy of the bookmaker's line. Here is exactly how a Best pick is chosen, and how it has actually done.
The method
- ForecastOur model turns each team's form, strength and matchup into an expected-goals forecast for both sides.
- MarketsExpected goals become a chance for every match market — 1/X/2, double chance, both teams to score, and goal lines from 0.5 to 4.5.
- The recommended bandOnly Home win, Away win, 1X, X2, Over 1.5 can be a Best pick, and only when their chance sits between 75% and 90% — likely, but not a foregone conclusion.
The recommended band comes from a back-test of 5,324 finished matches across 15 competitions: double chance, Over 0.5/1.5 and Under 3.5/4.5 markets came true about as often as forecast (75–81% when predicted at 75%); both teams to score and the higher goal lines run over-confident, so they are shown on every match page but never recommended as a Best pick.
Live track record
Of the last 30 days' 312 graded Best picks, 265 came true (85%).
Only picks from a forecast published before kick-off count — never a replay built after the match, and never today's still-open picks.

Frequently asked questions
How does MatchOptics choose its Best picks?
Each match is scored by our forecasting model into expected goals, which become a chance for every market (home/draw/away, double chance, both teams to score, over/under). The Best pick is the likeliest of a shortlist of markets, provided it falls in a band that is likely without being pointless.
What does the likely band mean?
A Best pick's chance is kept between 75% and 90%. Below that it is too close to call; above it the pick would be so one-sided it adds little. A pick at or above 85% is marked "Strong".
Which markets can be a Best pick?
Home win, Away win, 1X, X2, Over 1.5. Both teams to score and the higher goal lines are shown on the match page but are never a Best pick — our back-test found them less reliable.
Is the track record real?
Yes — it is the same figure the Best picks page itself uses: every graded pick from a forecast published before kick-off over the last 30 days, with no picks left out.
What does Pro include?
Pro ($10 a month) unlocks every match's Best pick and full market predictions, Fantasy projections and an unlimited Prediction Game. The free Fan plan still sees every match's result.
Are Best picks guaranteed to win?
No. They are probabilities built from statistics, not certainties, and they can and do lose. MatchOptics does not take bets and is not a betting operator — any wagering is a reader's own decision, on their own platform.
